APA Citation for Statistics

What is APA Citation?

A lot of students are concerned when they initially hear that we will be citing statistics using the APA style of citation. The use of APA in this class is not like you would expect in an English class. In the Interpretation section (Step 6) for each hypothesis test, there is specific APA citation that we will use to note certain statistics that resulted from the particular study. An example of the notation is listed below for each of our hypothesis tests.

NOTE: Please do not stress that you do not know what all of the notations mean yet. As we work through our seven types of hypothesis testing, each APA citation will be explained in detail.

One Sample t-test

LaTeX: t(35)=2.145,p=.017,two-tailed,95\% CI [-1.653,-0.453]

Two Sample Dependent t-test

LaTeX: t(17)=1.145,p=.089,two-tailed,r^2=.185

Two Sample Independent t-test

LaTeX: t(17)=1.145,p=.089,two-tailed,r^2=.185

One-Way ANOVA F-test

LaTeX: F(4,28)=4.513,p=.165,\eta^2=.036

Test of (Pearson) Correlation

LaTeX: r(96)=.784,p=.011,two-tailed,r^2=.615

One-Way Chi Square test

LaTeX: \chi^2(5,57)=17.946,p=.429

Two-Way Chi Square test

LaTeX: \chi^2(2,112)=57.691,p=.429,\varphi^2=.284
